The Rural Transformation Unit in the Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Zero Hunger Trust Fund presents the National Home Garden Competition.
The general public is invited to apply in one of three categories: Crops, Livestock and Mixed Farming, (both Crops and Livestock).
Senior Technical Officer in the Rural Transformation Unit Curell Thompson-Fergus announced the registration date as spanning from May 28th, to June 30th, 2024. The competition date is July 1st, to October 31st, 2024.
Registration forms are available at the office of the Rural Transformation Unit at the Ministry of Agriculture in Kingstown and the Zero Hunger Trust Fund’s Office, 2nd floor NIS building also in Kingstown.

Registration: 29th May- 30th June, 2024
Competition Date: 1st July- 31st October, 2024
Judging: Between September and October, 2024

RULES OF COMPETITION
The following rules will apply to all participants entering the Home Garden Competition 2024.
- The competition will be opened to the general public
- Applicants will be responsible for organizing their participation and establishing their gardens
- Gardens will be judged between September and October 2024
- Garden plots should not exceed 4000 square feet (0.1 acres)
- Entry in the livestock category is limited to Poultry and Rabbits
- Poultry: No more than 50 layers and 100 broilers
- Rabbit: No more than 20 rabbits
- Garden must be established at the place of residence or within a residential community
- The Ministry of Agriculture will provide training, technical guidance and support
JUDGING CATEGORIES
The following areas will be considered during the judging of Home Gardens.
- Management of Livestock
- Management of Crop
- Use of Technology
- Sustainability
- Record-keeping (record-keeping template will be provided)
- Use of space
- Diversity
NOTE. Winners are required to be photographed. The photographs would only be used for the record of the ZHTF and the Ministry of Agriculture.
Deadline for submission of all registration forms is 30th June, 2024.
